Environment: I had an environment  consist of a two node SQL Cluster hosting ConfigMgr database and a separate ConfigMgr primary site server Resolution: Windows firewall service must be started on both SQL nodes and ConfigMgr itself . As soon as the service is started exceptions for TCP 1433 and 4022 must be added to SQL nodes firewall. The installation fails with HTTP error 401 (access denied).  I double checked my Network Access Account, tried to log in on a problem machine using it. SCCM 2012 and PXE gotcha - no matching processor architecture boot image Posted: 23 Jul 2012 05:25 PM PDT I'm currently in the process of upgrading our SCCM 2007 R3 rig to SCCM 2012. I wanted to take the opportunity as part of this migration to streamline some of our workflows and really "go to town" with some of the SCCM features; for all the investment put in to hardware and set up, we really have not been utilising its full power over the last couple of years. The reasons are long and boring and complicated, and I won't go into them right now. In keeping with the whole set of upgrades to the System Centre 2012 suite, I am thoroughly impressed with the increased robustness and reliability I am sensing from my experience with SCCM so far. So, as part of my rebuild, I wanted to update our system images used to deploy XP SP3 and Windows 7 machines. I typically complete this task in a Hyper-V virtual machine, to minimise the number of drivers being injected into the image, and therefore the amount of complexity involved in the build & capture process. It's really simple – you just have to ensure the legacy NIC rather than the synthetic NIC is enabled in the Hyper-V VM before you get going. Having performed this millions of times in the past, I duly configured the PXE features of the DP, created a computer object, deployed (new word for advertising…) my build & capture task sequence and booted up a VM from a while ago. Yes, in case you were unaware (chances are, if you're reading this, you're aware already) the PXE role is not a separate role anymore – it's just a checkbox to enable on the properties of the distribution point role on an appropriate site system. When you enable that, the back-end goes off to install Windows Deployment Services, which is still used for all the core functionality. Well, at least, that's how I thought it worked. My VM never booted at all. It sat at the typical PXE DHCP screen for a long time and then eventually gave up and timed out. A cursory analysis of the SMSPXE log (under C:\Program Files\SMS_CCM\Logs) recovered an error message: Warning: Matching Processor Architecture Boot Image (0) not found Strange. The boot image shows as 100% compliant on all the necessary DPs, so why is the PXE service unable to locate it? This was sure enough the reason why my VM wasn't booting; everything else looked correct, helper addresses correct on the switches and a suitable DHCP range in place on the DHCP server. The short answer to this story is that although the PXE point is now a feature of a DP, it's not entirely integrated with the DP. I should have realised this. WDS still needs the boot images to be present, doesn't it?! There's still a checkbox, unticked by default, on the properties of the boot image itself, under the Data Source tab, which is marked "Deploy this boot image from the PXE service point". This is the functionally equivalent to deploying a boot image to the PXE images DP under SCCM 2007, and achieves roughly the same effect on the back-end. Check that box, wait for the WIM files to be copied over to your RemoteInstall folder, and you will be good to go!
